Another Case study

This card was made by my friend, Assumption Antao, who enjoys card making too but due to her hectic schedule hasnt been able to join in for quite some time. She also made her card keeping in mind the card inspiration from Beyond Grey Challenge #14- Case Study.
I had just received my parcel of die cut butterflies from Kavitha of Kalalayaa craft store and my friend was fascinated with them. So she wanted to added the die cut butterfly in her card.

And this is the close up of the butterfly.

Ain't it absolutely gorgeous? The other 2 butterflies are stamped and cut out.
Also adding her card in The Paper Shelter Challenge #77- Clean and Simple
and For the love of crafting: Challenge #9- CAS.
Hope you liked her card.

Case Study - Thanks.

I came across this awesome challenge on Beyond Grey Challenges #14 - Case study last week with a card inspiration from Romina. Thought real hard what I could do with the inspiration to make it my own. And this is what i came up with.

Although I made this on Saturday, my internet has been playing spoilsport all these days. So finally todays the day. :)
Also entering this card on The Paper Shelter Challenge #77- Clean and Simple

Hope you liked the card. Do leave me your valuable comments to let me know.

Shades of Blue- part 2

I had originally posted one blogpost with both the cards but then realised I couldn't enter both the cards for the same challenge. So this card gets a separate blogpost.
You will have to scroll down to read the first half.

The next card I made is with the same colour theme of navy, aqua and lime.
These squares measure 1 1/4 inches and the top set of squares have been rounded to show the bottom squares. I have added eyelets to give it a masculine look.
Here's a close up:
The 'happy birthday' stamp is from the Curly Cute stamp set of Stampin' Up. Isn't it beautiful?

I am entering this card in the following challenges:
CAS-ual Fridays: CFC63- Lime, Aqua and Navy
Clean & Simple: 200- sketch

Beyond Grey Challenges: BGC#13- Card without Stamping (sentiments allowed)

Hope you liked this one too. Feel free to leave me your comments.

Shades of Blue- part 1

Its been some time that I've been in the mood for crafting. But this weekend, I was raring to go. Friday night I looked online for inspiration from some challenges and I was truly inspired. Saturday early morning I started and the ideas kept flowing. I was working with a deadline of mid morning since my niece and nephew were coming home and I would not be able to get any work done with them around.
There are 2 cards I made on Saturday. There were more ideas I had in mind however time didnt permit me. So here is one:

The next image is a close up. The dark blue mat is actually inked with the Brilliance Mediterranean Blue ink drop. Looks good, doesn't it?
The squares measure 3/4 inches. The sentiment is from Curly Cute of Stampin' Up!

I am entering this card in the following challenges:

Beyond Grey Challenges #13: Card without stamping
CAS-ual Fridays CFC63: Challenge colours - lime, aqua and navy

I really love the outcome of my saturday morning and love the colour combination of these cards.
Do let me know what you think about it.

Just in Time!

For the past few weeks, I have tried participating in a few challenges. However, I always ended up missing the dates. So today I made a card to participate in 3 different challenges. Whew!!
And im posting it just in time. (I hope!)

All these 3 challenges are unique ones:
Indian Craft Room: ICR19- Fancy Folds + Anything but an easel card.
Beyond Grey Challenges: BGC #12- Challenge Ombre
For the love of crafting: Challenge #8- Anything goes with twist (brown or shades of brown)

I came across this card on Night Owl Designs and I was very fascinated. I just had to try it. So today within an hour, my card was ready.
Here it is:

A star card. It looks intricate and tough but its not difficult at all following the directions of Cliona Larkin.
When you open it, this is how it looks:

Another look:

Isn't it unique? Do let me know what you think.

Hope you all had a great weekend.
Hugs.

I'm so blue....

..without you!
It's been almost 2 months since I've seen my DH and I'm missing him...so very much. He's in the merchant navy and those of you who remember i sailed with him last year for 6 months along the coast of Australia. It was wonderful. That's where I discovered stamps and patterned paper and all the lovely treasures of card making. He will be back by October and am eagerly waiting for him.

Now to get back to the card I made, it has a similar theme. Blue, black and white from The Play Date Cafe. And the sketch is from Clean and Simple - sketch 196.

And this is my take on the 2 challenges:

After I added the black squares and images, I felt the left side of the card was pretty empty. So I ran it through the cuttlebug and also scored 2 lines between the images and the embossing. Now it looked complete.
On the black strip, instead of a button, I stuck some white stars in the form of a flourish. It has a shine and so looks pinkish from an angle. I also added some butterflies continuing the image.
What do you think of my card?

Roses are Pink!!

Hi. Hope you all had a great weekend!
It was my best friend's birthday yesterday and so over the weekend I made her a card. My inspiration for the card came from an old UK craft magazine I happened to chance upon at a small book stand. My luck!
Well, this is the card I made her.

The magazine recommends using circle punches to get the petals. Since I had just one circle punch, I hand cut the petals. The leaves too are handcut.

The centers of the roses have little pearls in them to give it a soft glow.

Im entering this card in:
CAS-ual Fridays: CFC58
Less is More: Week 73 recipe - Paper piecing

I enjoyed making this card. Hope you like it too!
Hugs.

PS: I made it to Top 3  at Beyond Grey Challenges for this card. Thank you BGC!

The gems also match the colour palette - teal, pink and yellow. Isn't it gorgeous?

Two's company!

I enjoy crafting alone; but yes, with a friend, its most enjoyable. A friend of mine who is not into crafting, came over the other day and after lunch we decided to make some valentine cards. I was actually surprised to find her so eager to craft. After selecting a card to case, I helped her with the initial stages. But then she took over and amazed me. Her card did turn out very beautiful. I dont have a photo of it but i'll try getting one.
In the mean time I tried making a card keeping these challenges in mind:
Simon Says....Tag it & Crafty JC Challenge #14 - Valentine  with Non Traditional colours
I have never made a tag with a card and this is an attempt. I hope it is a good one. If there is something you can point out for me to improve or correct, feel free to comment. Thats how we grow, right?
So here's my card:

Supplies: DCVW paper (black), echo paper victoria gardens pp, Jef's lattice punch, x-cut 2.5" circle punch, papermania stamp (butterfly), maya road white ink, ribbon.

It is a 4x6 easel card in black and white keeping up with the non traditional colour theme. I ran the bottom half of the black cardstock through the cuttlebug using the polka dot embossing folder. I stuck the PP on the plain half of the black cardstock and added the punched strip to cover the joining. The tag is a 2.5" circle on which 2 butteflies are stamped and their paths are hand drawn with a white gel pen. A hole was punched on the top, an eyelet was fixed using a crop a dile and the ribbon was attached. The tag is attached to the card with foam dots (sorry, cant remember the real word for them)
I attached a strip of punched cardstock for the inside to give it some continuity. Since I dont have many stamps with sentiments, I handwrote this sentiment "You make my heart sing" and fixed it with double sided foam dots. Ofcourse this went to my DH and he loved it. :) He does make my heart sing!
How did you like it? Feel free to let me know.
Hugs.

Cherish every moment

Its already a month into the new year (not so new anymore), and I know its high time i showed some presence in the blog world. But the break was so long, it took me quite long to get my mojo back. I have tried combining 3 challenges together this time.

Young Crafters Unite Challenge #6 - Follow the sketch

OLW77- Happy Birdie
and Beyond Grey Challenge #2 - Non-traditional Love card

And this is my take combining the 3 challenges
This is a One Layer Card with the tree from Unity stamps stamped straight on the card. Since i didn't have any bird stamps, I drew and colored the birds and nest to depict love birds and put them on dimensionals. I then made a rectangular border around the image to stick to the YCU sketch. Keeping with the sketch, I added the sentiment below the image. The complete card has no red/pink/hearts keeping with the twist of Beyond Grey Challenge - a non traditional love card.

I added a few rhinestones to liven up the image. Don't my birdies look cute?

I don't own many sentiment stamps and so this sentiment is handwritten.

Well, what do you think of it? Do leave me your comments.

Sailing Away...

...actually Im flying away.
Yes, my hubby and me are leaving tomorrow afternoon and are finally going home! Its gonna be a long, long flight home but i dont care as long as im going home. So i will be MIA for the next few days.
As a parting gift this is what I gave the previous captain who left a few weeks ago. We came on ship together and he looked after me just like a daughter during my stay.

I first drew a border for the frame. And then drew the sailboats and waves on the wrong side. Then using an xacto knife, i cut it out. I adhered it to the blue cardstock with dimensional tape and also put bits of dimensional tape on the sails so that they would give a pop out effect. This is the frame I gifted the captain.
This was done in a major hurry because I was first not sure what to give him and when I thought of this it was very close to his departure. I know the top layer is not cut straight but i never noticed it until I saw the photos. Does that happen to you?
Well, I hope he liked it 'cause I really liked it. What about you?
Do leave me a comment and let me know.

Im entering this frame in:
DDSB Challenge # 80 - Anything Goes
JUGS #108 - Wildcard Challenge
Charisma Cardz Challenge #43 - Anything Goes
The Paper Shelter Challenge #37 - Anything Goes
Bearly Mine Challenge #22  - Anything but a Card

Hugs.

Still tweaking...

Good day!

Im still tweaking around to make my blog what i want it to be. Not completely there, but i think im reaching soon. Just got news that we will (hopefully!) get to go home at the next port. That just means a lot of packing because now along with what i brought when i came i've got loads more to push into my bags. I bought a lot of carstocks and pattern papers and embellishments and accesories. The only thing i didnt get enough of was stamps. But that i have put in an order from a crafter in India, Ujjwal. Check out her blog. She is an amazing crafter and i love her cards.
So im gonna be packing and packing for the next few days in the hope of a confirmation that we are going home.
Today i'll share with you a simple card i made a couple of days back.
Supplies: cardstock: DCWV , image: gift wrapping paper
It is a simple card with just an image stuck on a darker shade of cardstock. And i have added score lines around the image. Can you see it? I cant take my projects outside for a better picture so have to make do with what i have. Since i dont have too many stamps, I look out for gift wrapping paper that has images or a good background to use.
Hope you like it. Take a few seconds to let me know. I'd really appreciate it.
I'll be entering this card in Craft JC Challenge #10 : Simplicity

Origami Evening dress

Hi.
First let me tell you a little about myself. I am a sailors wife and am currently sailing with him along the coast of Queensland, Australia. Although i have been making cards since school days, it was only on this trip that i discovered making cards with pattern paper and stamps and inks through many different blogs. Although sailing is nice, it can get a bit lonely and monotonous. So i have done a fair deal of crafting to pass my time, which i will show you over the coming days. Well, thats enough about me for one day. Now onto the card.
This card is a birthday card for a very dear friend. I miss her a lot - our chattering, window shopping or cooking together. It was her birthday sometime back and i have been scratching my brains to think of a card as special as her. It is an easel card. I apologize for the quality of the images.

Supplies: Cardstock - DCWV jewel cardstock, Patterned Paper - Craft (The Reject Shop) , Ribbon - My inspiration (from Big W), Sentiment - All Mixed Up rubons(Doodlebug Design Inc.), Embellishments - rhinestones

I came across the origami dress on Homemade Gifts Made Easy. After i tried making it and saw the outcome I knew I wanted to make this card for my friend. It looks super, doesn't it?
I made the card according to the Indian Craft Room Challenge 11. The requirement was an Easel Card with basic shapes.
Hope you like it. Do leave me a comment. I'd really appreciate it.
Hugs.
